I am curious to know the percentage tax that an American civilian paid to the British in 1775 relative to now.?

I am curious to know the average percentage tax that an average American paid to the British Empire around 1775 relative to the current average percentage tax paid. I understand that these are only estimates but the answer might be astonishingly illuminating.
