Why the he11 is it sooo hard for government to exist within its means?

My ex took a cl on government years ago and brought home a list of stuff politicians get at our expense...I can't remember all of them, the list was as long as my arm, but fresh cut flowers in their offices daily, remodeled offices whenever, stuff like that, it just turned my stomach, how about they buy their own cars and shuttle their s in to a cubicle until we're out of debt.
