No, you're not friends. He was sort of intrigued to hear from someone from his past, but I think he came to realize how much you've both changed faster than you came to realize it. Now that you realize it, you should also realize that there's not much of a basis for friendship. Keep the friendship you had in your memory because that's the good one; you're now both very different and communicating with each other on very different planes. It's as if you don't talk the same language.
